Haven Learning Center Curricula

Haven Learning Center is responsible for creating the best possible curricula to meet and develop personal knowledge, skills and academic competence to the best of each student’s abilities. Our courses are designed to meet the traditional expectations of specific knowledge, skills and competencies required to succeed in life. We believe that each and every student should have the opportunity for further, post-secondary education should they desire it. Our programs are designed to be college preparatory. Honors courses cover the same material as the standard courses do, however, the textbooks chosen are more difficult and go into greater depth.  Curriculum for each course may vary, depending upon the individual needs and abilities of each student. All curricula are chosen and courses are designed to fulfill the basic essential elements outlined by the various states of the United States of America. Instruction in the essential elements may be modified to meet the specific needs of students with identified needs.

The staff of  Haven Learning Center are continually researching new textbooks to add to our selection, in order to provide you with the most complete range of curricula to meet a variety of educational needs, styles and budgets. Haven also publishes a variety of textbook study guides designed to assist the home schooler.

While we encourage religious and/or moral instruction in the home, we do not discriminate due to race, color or beliefs. Our curriculum is non-secular and may be used by all. Parents who wish to include religious instruction within their program are encouraged to do so. Students may also receive credits for extra-curricular activities. Arrangements must be made with each student’s assigned counselor.

Science courses are laboratory oriented, to as much as can be expected within the resources and abilities of the family. We encourage the use of instructional activities such as science experiments, field trips and visits to museums or historical sites as often as can be reasonably expected for the family.

High school credits are awarded for each high school course successfully completed. A grade of 70% or higher is required to pass a course. Successful completion of a one-semester course shall earn the award of ½ unit of credit. A one-semester course generally covers ½ of the material covered in a standard school year.

Graduates of each high school are awarded the same type of diploma. The academic achievement record (transcript), records individual accomplishments, achievements and courses completed.
